False cinch bugs (genus Nysius) can emerge in large numbers, sometimes seemingly overnight. However, they are typically a temporary nuisance and tend to vanish as swiftly as they arrive. These small, grayish-brown insects are often mistaken for harmful pests, but their impact is generally minimal.

They feed on plant sap, primarily targeting weeds like mustard or other plants in the brassica family. When their host plants dry out or are disturbed—such as during weed removal or seasonal changes—false cinch bugs may migrate in masse to nearby areas, including homes and gardens.
